MAKERERE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES AND KIRUDDU NATIONAL REFERRAL HOSPITAL

Kiruddu hospital is the main teaching site for the department of Medicine of Makerere University College of Health Sciences. The mandate of the University include:

 The faculty of Makerere University and staff of Kiruddu hospital form the Faculty of the department of Medicine. Members of the faculty work together to achieve the role of teaching of students of Makerere University. These students are composed of undergraduate and post graduate students

 Undergraduate students

 3rd, 4th and 5th year students all perform their medicine clinical rotations in Kiruddu hospital. Every year 600 undergraduate students pass through Kiruddu to attend tutorials, ward and laboratory  teachings and clinical examinations which are conducted every end of semester.

Postgraduate students

 

The Department enrolls a total of 30 students on Masters of Medicine in Internal Medicine (MED Internal Medicine) program. This program runs for 3 years, and on average we have 10 students per year of study. These post graduate students continue taking part in clinical care of patients while attending their tutorials and ward teachings. In this way they contribute to the workforce 

 Research

Research is conducted by all students on Masters training program. In addition most of the Faculty are conducting research and the faculty produce more than 50 publications every year, contributing significantly to the ranking of Makerere University.
